BIDE YOUR TIME

Claudio Ranieri to keep Nice waiting as he eyes Prem return with West Ham, Watford or Southampton

Ex-Leicester boss lives an hour away from French club but his heart yearns for another crack at management in England

NICE want Claudio Ranieri as their replacement for Lucien Favre…but the former Leicester boss is reluctant to commit himself just yet.

Ranieri, still smarting after being axed by the Foxes after master-minding last season’s Premier League title triumph, wants to see how the land lies in England.

With uncertainty surrounding the jobs of Slaven Bilic at West Ham, Claude Puel at Southampton and Walter Mazzarri at Watford, Ranieri can afford to bide his time.

Nice hope the 65-year-old could be tempted by their offer given that he lives in nearby Monaco.

There would be problems, though, with the French club seemingly about to lose Paul Baysse, Mario Balotelli, Ricardo Pereira and Younes Belhanda.

But the chances are Ranieri would prefer another crack at management in the Premier League.

West Ham’s topsy-turvy season has put the spotlight on Bilic, Puel is rumoured to be on the move from St Mary’s while Watford tend to chance managers at the drop of a hat.

So he could slot into any one of these positions.

Meanwhile, Favre is set to take over from in-demand Thomas Tuchel at German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund next season.
