Maradona’s adviser Rashid Ali Garcia tweeted: “Diego is with the leaders of Fujairah. The agreement is for a year.”

The Napoli legend is regarded as one of best footballers to have graced the game but his coaching career hasn’t had the same success.

He managed Argentine side Textil Mandiyu in 1994 before moving to Racing Club a year later.

Diego Maradona was appointed manager of Argentina in 2008

Then in 2008 he surprised the footballing world when he took the Argentina national side job where he was eventually sacked following a 4-0 defeat to Germany at the 2010 World Cup quarter-finals.

A move to Al Wasl in 2011 followed but he endured a trophyless campaign and eighth place finish which resulted in Maradona facing the axe.

The appointment is a downgrade on the Napoli job he was hoping for.

Just last week he told Italian TV show Amici: “Would I coach Napoli? If the people wanted it, then yes.

“First of all I have to sort out the problems I have here in Italy, then I can work for Napoli in Italy and in the world.”
