In fact, in the 20 seasons prior to the current campaign, Tottenham have only broke into the top four twice – while Arsenal have done so every, single time.

The dominance of the red half of north London has even led to the birth of ‘St Totteringham’s Day’ – the annual event Gooners celebrate after confirming their place above Spurs again.

However, it would appear this season could be the first time ever under Wenger that Tottenham will finish above Arsenal.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have five games to play, while Arsenal have six… but with a deficit of 14 points it would take a miracle to enjoy another St Totteringham’s Day.

In truly script-worthy fashion, Tottenham can even confirm their status above Arsenal come the end of the season in the North London Derby on Sunday.

The pair are set to go head-to-head once more at White Hart Lane at 4.30pm, with Wenger knowing only a win will do.

Even then, it surely won’t be enough as Poch’s men are even harbouring title aspirations – just four points behind league-leaders Chelsea after a stunning run of form.

A victory on Sunday would go some way to making up for the heartbreak of last season, when Spurs hoped to pip Leicester to the title, but in fact fell away and finished BELOW Arsenal.

It seemed impossible, but the Gunners won on the final day of the season, while Tottenham lost 5-1 to already-relegated Newcastle on the final day to stun both halves of north London.

Spurs have been the nearly-men on a number of occasions, though.

After years languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League, Spurs soared to 5th in 2006.

In the 2005-06 season, Tottenham ended just two points behind Arsenal, before ending just ONE points behind the Gunners three times in the next five seasons.

But now, with only a handful of games yet to play, Spurs fans may finally get to celebrate getting one over on their fierce, bitter rivals…
