Barca had flirted with the idea of cashing in on their first-option arrangement which has been in place for the past two transfer windows.

However, Palmeiras are unhappy at the Catalans changing the terms once the two parties sat down to negotiate.

The initial arrangement would have seen Barcelona pay the full fee up front — but the Nou Camp giants are now requesting the fee be paid in instalments.

This is not the first time Barcelona have been criticised for their conduct when negotiating a transfer.

Brazil legend Ronaldo has been very vocal of his perception of how badly he was treated at the Nou Camp, insisting that was behind his decision to leave.

Meanwhile, Cesc Fabregas famously had a Barcelona shirt put on him as Spain celebrated winning the World Cup — despite still being an Arsenal player.

More recently, Gremio and Atletico Madrid have reported the La Liga giants to Fifa over their pursuits of Arthur and Antoine Griezmann respectively.

And Jurgen Klopp hinted he was unhappy with the manner in which they chased after Philippe Coutinho.

Palmeiras initially struck an agreement with Barcelona which would allow them to keep Mina on loan — similar to the situation with Gabriel Jesus, before he joined Manchester City.

The Catalans delayed any final decision, but a recent defensive crisis has forced Ernesto Valverde’s hand.

Samuel Umtiti is still sidelined and Javier Mascherano is set to complete a move to the Chinese Super League.
