Real Madrid are ready to battle Liverpool for highly-rated RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, according to reports.
German international Werner impressed last season after scoring 26 goals in all competitions for the Bundesliga club.
🏆Best bets: Champions League Tuesday🏆
- Man United v Basel, United to score after 75 minutes: 11/10
- United and Chelsea to win to nil: 3/2
- United, Chelsea, City, Liverpool and Spurs to win: 7/1
And now Sport 1 are reporting that Spanish giants Real are looking at Werner after he was Germany’s top scorer in the Confederations Cup during the summer.
Real are said to believe Werner could be a future star after showing such great promise at a young age in the Bundesliga.
But Leipzig will do everything they can to stop Werner leaving after agreeing to sell Naby Keita to Liverpool next summer.
It was also reported that Real had scouts at Germany’s 6-0 World Cup qualifying win against Norway, where Werner bagged a brace.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has already sealed a £48m deal for midfielder Keita that will bring him to Anfield next season.
He will move on July 1 2018 after the club activated his release clause.
But Klopp and the Kop faithful will be itching to see Keita in a Liverpool strip after he netted a stunning strike during Leipzig’s 2-0 win against Hamburg on Friday.
The Guinea international was 25-yards out before unleashing an unstoppable effort that went straight into the top corner.
But Keita was taken on off with what looked like a groin injury and could be a doubt for Leipzig’s Champions League debut against Monaco.
Keita and Werner were part of the exciting and young Leipzig team that shocked the Bundesliga by finishing runners-up to Bayern Munich last term.
