Juventus are set to repeat their favourite trick.
The Old Lady love nothing more than sniffing around players who are nearing the end of their contracts and swooping in.
Their latest target for this ploy is none other than Emre Can.
The Germany international has become a key cog in Jurgen Klopp’s system over the past year.
But Can’s contract expires in the summer of 2018 and there’s been no indication that he’s set to sign a new one.
That’s led to a number of admiring glances from across Europe, with the prospect of signing a young international midfielder for nothing surely too good to ignore.
Juventus are believed to be in pole position, with some reports going so far to claim they’ve already won the race for his signature.
And although an attempt to sign Can this summer was rebuffed by Liverpool, Juventus are adamant they will continue their pursuit in the next window or the one after.
Turin chief Beppe Marotta told Premium Sport via Talksport: “Liverpool are holding on tight to Emre Can.
“His contract expires in June. We’ll be able to negotiate with him from January. We won’t hide the fact we like him.
“But currently he is a Liverpool player, so we can only admire him from afar.”
Can was immense in Liverpool’s thrashing of Arsenal at the weekend and has become one of the first names of Klopp’s teamsheet.
Juventus famously signed Andrea Pirlo on a free after Milan chose not to renew the cultured midfielder’s contract.
Pirlo then went on to be a key figure in four consecutive title wins.
Fancy a bit of that, Emre? Of course you do.
