Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has admitted he has to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer in order to “grow”.
The Gabon-born ace was one of a number of big-name strikers targeted by top clubs around Europe this summer.
However, BVB set interested parties a deadline to make a bid last month.
Chelsea and AC Milan were among the clubs linked with a move for Aubameyang, but neither made a suitable offer.
Last season’s Bundesliga top scorer appeared set to stay at the Westfalenstadion, having netted in the opening day victory over Wolfsburg.
But later insisted he needs to move on to further his development as a footballer.
He told Radio Montecarlo Italy: “I am still reflecting on whether I should leave or not.
“This club and these fans are incredible, but if I want to grow, I feel I need to leave.
“This is the question I keep on asking myself — and I don’t have an answer.
“I need time to think about it. If I want to grow, I surely need to leave this summer.
“I am 27 and I need to grow.
“If I leave, it will only be somewhere I would play regularly.”
Big-spending Milan were expected to move for their former player — and Aubameyang revealed he was keen on a return.
He was even suspended in 2016 for making a visit to the Italian city without Dortmund’s permission.
However, having already brought one striker in in Andre Silva, they are close to securing a deal for Fiorentina hitman Nikola Kalinic.
