Antonio Conte’s miserable summer is dragging on with former club Juventus rejecting two massive offers for wing-back Alex Sandro, according to reports.
Intentionally or not, Conte made it crystal clear how shallow his squad is with the team selection for the opening-day defeat against Burnley.
And there are rumblings that the Italian boss and his board at Stamford Bridge are at loggerheads over their clashing ideas on transfer targets.
They appear to agree on Brazilian defender Sandro, but the Standard claim they have had offers of £52m and £61m rejected.
Conte’s old bosses have already parted with star man Leonardo Bonucci and have offered Sandro a new £84,000-a-week deal to keep him.
The English champions, however, are prepared to pay the 26-year-old in excess of £100,000 but that has not affected Juve’s stance and Conte wants his ex-charge to demand a move in writing.
Juve boss Max Allegri insists his player is not leaving Turin but they are in the process of cutting short the two-year loan of Leonardo Spinazzola, who plays in Sandro’s position at Atalanta, 12 months early.
Players are reluctant to make official transfer requests as it can cost them loyalty payments in their contracts.
And the extra step is one that can infuriate fans who can view the players as disloyal for forcing his way out of the club.
Conte has found it difficult to mask his frustration with the way business has gone in the quiet months since his side celebrated their title win.
After the Burnley loss, he said: “The club is trying to do things in the transfer market.
“I am a coach and now the season has started, so my focus must be on the pitch and working with my players.
“This is my squad and I want to fight with these players. The club is doing the work.”
