The summer transfer window has just got very interesting indeed.
The Belgian hitman is a long term target for his former club Chelsea, but Jose Mourinho is closing in on a world record deal for the 24-year-old.
Lukaku has been in prolific form in the last two seasons, scoring 25 and 26 goals respectively, with the Belgian five short of 150 career club goals.
Now it looks like a bidding war will kick off between United and Chelsea, who let Lukaku leave for a club record fee of £28million in 2014.
It is thought the deal is separate to the ongoing discussions between the two clubs for Wayne Rooney, who is set for a sensational return to his former club, 13 years after leaving Goodison Park for Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Rooney’s agent Paul Stretford has met with Everton chairman Bill Kenwright, with talks expected to last a few more days.
