Stoke are considering a move for Brazilian ace Luan – but would need to sell either Xherdan Shaqiri or Marko Arnautovic first.
SunSport understands representatives of the Gremio star held talks with the Potters top brass this week.
And while there was definite interest, a transfer would only be possible if one of Shaqiri or Arnautovic – both linked with summer exits – were to depart.
That would free up the space in the squad for another creative attacking player which could open the door for a pursuit of Luan.
The 24-year-old, who has netted 53 goals in 182 appearances for his only club Gremio, would cost around £18million, despite entering the last year of his contract.
The forward, linked to Liverpool in May, has one full cap for his country and won the 2016 Olympics with the Under-23 side.
Arnautovic has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan.
But Shaqiri told a Swiss newspaper last month he is not looking to quit the Britannia Stadium – and would only do so if he viewed the switch as progression in his career.
He said: “I have a contract with Stoke until 2020. If I were to leave Stoke, it would have to be a step up for me.
“Everything would have to be right.”
