Just when you though transfer fees had reached a peak…
Real Madrid have been offered a staggering £176million for star forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
An unnamed Chinese Super League club are desperate to land the Portuguse superstar and have tabled a second bid that would shatter a number of records.
The mystery club are prepared to offer Ronaldo £105m-a-year, making him the highest paid athlete ever – according to Marca.
The phenomenal offer would dwarf any other footballer’s salary at an unbelievable £2million per week.
Carlos Tevez was widely reported to be the highest paid in the world – taking home £634,615 gross every seven days at Shanghai Shenhua.
But his fellow Argentina forward Ezequiel Lavezzi has been earning more, with a weekly remuneration of £798,000 a week.
That works out as £41.5million a year being shelled out by Hebei China Fortune.
Ronaldo fuelled talk he could be set to leave Madrid in the near future by refusing to rule out an exit.
When asked about the possibility by a reporter for Deportes Cuatro, the 32-year-old laughed off a move away, but said nothing was impossible.
Man United and PSG have also expressed interest but Madrid are likely to turn down any offers no matter how high.
Ronaldo highlighted his class with a superb two-goal showing in the Champions League final as Los Blancos clinched their 12th title.
Nice try, anonymous Chinese club, but he’s not finished in Europe just yet.
