Brighton keeper Dave Stockdale has sent fans into a panic, after sending a series of messages suggesting his time at the club is up.
The stopper is out contract with the Premier League new boys, and has not agreed a deal to extend his three-year stay on the South Coast.
Stockdale was instrumental in the Seagulls’ promotion to the top flight and was named in the PFA Championship team of the year.
The 31-year-old former Fulham keeper has been linked with a move to Chelsea as back up to first-choice Thibaut Courtois.
A string of heartfelt posts on social media suggest the Yorkshireman has played his final game for Chris Hughton’s promoted side.
He posted on Twitter:”Gutted to be go out like that. Big thank you to all my teammates and staff. @BenJamesRoberts for everything. Thank you to all the fans.”
Brighton fans, desperate for Stockdale to stay and help the club stay in the Premier League next term replied, pleading with him to sign a new deal.
One fan replied:”You’ve been immense this season. We are up which was the target. Just sign a new contract please.”
Another added: “Don’t leave to be a bench warmer Dave, you deserve another crack at the prem.”
Despite talks breaking down, Hughton will be hopeful he can convince Stockdale his long-term future is at the Amex.
