Liverpool fans have had to endure a number of nervy summers watching their best players linked with and, inevitably, often leaving for pastures new.
The likes of Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling have both departed in the last few seasons for hefty fees, and Philippe Coutinho is the stellar name from the current crop tipped to follow suit.
The Brazilian playmaker has been constantly linked with a move to Barcelona this summer, particularly with Brazilian compatriot Neymar continuing to talk up the chances of his mate joining him in Catalonia.
But Guillem Balague has come along and settled those nerves a little.
The Spanish football expert has dismissed Barca’s interest in Liverpool’s number ten, claiming his agent is creating most of the rumours.
“There are more stories coming out that Barcelona want Coutinho, and I think he might be willing to go, but Barcelona are not after him,” he told Sky Sports.
“It’s just moves the agents are making to try to convince Barcelona to move for him. But they do not want him.”
Coutinho’s season was heavily disrupted by ankle ligament damage he suffered in a win over Sunderland in November which kept him out for the best part of two months.
But the 24-year-old has still managed 11 goals and six assists in all competitions, including four strikes in his last six appearances.
He is expected to be fit for Liverpool’s crucial league game against Southampton on Sunday despite a dead leg injury forcing him off against Watford on Monday.
