Brighton boss Chris Hughton is considering a loan move for Chelsea wonderkid Tammy Abraham.
The newly promoted gaffer needs fresh talent to bolster his strike force for the challenge of the top flight – and the 19-year-old Bristol City loanee is in his sights.
Abraham has been a revelation during his season-long loan, bagging 26 goals in all competitions.
His scintillating form has convinced Hughton he could be the ideal man to offer a different striking option to veteran target man Glenn Murray and former West Ham player Sam Baldock.
The Brighton boss got a chance to check up on the forward at close quarters yesterday as his team were denied being crowned champions with a 1-0 defeat to City.
The England under-21 star has attracted the interest of a number of top flight clubs with Everton and Leicester both keen on trying to secure a permanent deal for him.
But Hughton hopes that the Stamford Bridge club reject all of the big cash offers coming their way – and instead choose to send the youngster out on loan for another season.
After a season in the Championship, the Blues could opt to give Abraham the chance to develop at a higher level by sending out to a rival Premier League club.
And that is where Hughton hopes to seal a deal by offering the chance of regular first team football to help his talent develop.
Bristol City owner Steve Lansdown last week claimed Chelsea would be mad to sell Abarahm, comparing his goalscoring talent to that of Gary Lineker.
With Real Madrid’s unsettled star Alvaro Morata in Antonio Conte’s sights, as well as the prolific Romelu Lukaku, a loan deal for Abraham may materialise this summer.
From what we’ve seen this year, there’s no reason he wouldn’t trouble the defenders of the Premier League.
