GUS POYET claims there is a “great possibility” of former teammate John Terry joining him in the Chinese Super League.
The Uruguayan tactician is forging a career in the Far East as boss of super-rich Shanghai Shenhua and is desperate to land Terry when the Chelsea captain’s contract expires.
The pair played together for four years at Stamford Bridge but could now be set for a reunion on the other side of the world, with ex-Manchester United, Manchester City and West Ham striker Carlos Tevez already at the club.
Terry is sure to be inundated with offers once his Blues deal is up, with a number of Premier League teams including Swansea and Bournemouth reportedly interested.
But Poyet is confident he can lure the veteran defender to China, telling TalkSport: “It is a great opportunity for him and for all the teams here [in China], including us.
“The latest change of the quantity of foreigners on the pitch stops some clubs from bringing in defenders, but we are talking about a special one.
“It is a great possibility that China will be one of the possible destinations for John Terry in the future.
“He has had a great career. He is going to be remembered forever. He is a great captain and he has done everything for the club.
“It is a very difficult decision whether to stay in England or go abroad. I would like him not to play in the Premier League for another club – maybe I’m a little bit selfish.”
