Paul Scholes says ‘everyone wanted to boot and kick’ Ronaldinho when he rejected Man United
Everyone knows that back in 2003 Man United came teasingly close to signing Ronaldinho.
Unfortunately for the Old Trafford faithful the skillful Brazilian chose Barcelona instead.
United signed a little-known Portuguese winger named Cristiano Ronaldo instead and so things worked out alright in the long run.
But in the immediate aftermath of Ronaldinho’s rejection, the club felt scorned.
Specifically, Paul Scholes.
The legendary midfielder told the Republik of Mancunia blog about the time he came up against Ronaldinho shortly after he signed for Barcelona.
“We were on the preseason tour and it looked like he was going to sign for us and he ended up signing for Barcelona,” he said.
“And we were playing Barcelona on the preseason tour. Because he didn’t sign for us, everyone wanted to boot him and kick him, but you couldn’t get near him! Brilliant player.”
So typical of both of them.
This effort from Nicky Butt appears to be the closest anyone got on the day…
Many people have said the same about Lionel Messi; that he is too quick to put a reducer on.
It’s the sign of a good player.
