The Champions League is FINALLY back and we have just the boost for you as Man City take on Real Madrid

The Champions League is finally back and it kicks off with a bang as Man City take on Real Madrid.

We’re focusing on Pep versus Zizou as Man City look to get the job done in their second leg match at the Etihad.

As always, our very good friends over at Betway have your back ahead of this one with a free £30 bet (SIGN UP HERE).

City will be quietly seething ahead of tonight’s match.

On the face of it, their season has been a disaster and certainly doesn’t reflect the extreme talent of their squad or the genuine ability of their manager.

Having lost out to Liverpool in the Premier League, Arsenal in the FA Cup and then being threatened with a two-year European ban by Uefa – Pep and his boys will perhaps be more determined than any other club in the competition to win this season’s Champions League.

Incidentally, Betway have them down as favourites to lift the trophy this season at 3/1, with Bayern (7/2) and PSG (11/2) also in the mix.

Before they can think about that, City will have to navigate their way past mighty Real Madrid… but they bring a healthy 2-1 lead into this second leg game at home.

Playing at the Etihad is very important to Guardiola’s side as they’ve won seven straight matches at home, although Madrid will be extremely tough opponents after they won 10 of their final 11 La Liga matches en route to the title.

Karim Benzema is in good goal-scoring form with four goals across Madrid’s last four games, and Eden Hazard will be fit enough to start here.

Of course, City have danger men as well and while a lot of eyes will be on Gabriel Jesus – who was wonderful against Madrid in the first leg – the end-of-season brilliance of Kevin De Bruyne will be key here, we think.

The Belgian netted six goals across the Prem and FA Cup post-restart and showed the kind of talent which probably warrants a Player of the Year gong.

He could be the difference here in what will likely be a tight and cagey affair.

We all like our home comforts, don’t we?

The same can be said for some of the biggest teams in Europe, as every single one of the Europa League second-leg matches that were played on Wednesday and Thursday saw the home team win.

As a result, each team that played at home – and won – are through to the next round of the competition, including Man United and Wolves, as well as Inter Milan, Sevilla and Bayer Leverkusen.

With the rest of the tournament set to be played out in Cologne in Germany, these teams will have to say goodbye to those home comforts and get used to those hard hotel room mattresses and strange-tasting tap water.

We just sort of expected Man United to breeze through their second leg match against LASK.

I mean, sure, they did sort of breeze it – winning 7-1 on aggregate certainly doesn’t suggest any kind of hardship – but seeing the Austrian outfit score first and lose by just a single-goal at Old Trafford left us feeling a little… bemused.

It’s never nice to see a small side get absolutely pummelled and fair play to LASK for playing well against the odds, but we – and our bet slips – would’ve appreciated a big win for United here, a clean-sheet for Sergio Romero and, of course, goals from Europa League hit-men Obion Ighalo and Mason Greenwood.

I guess we can’t have it all, can we?
