The Premier League season has been suspended following emergency talks

We all knew it was coming, but that doesn’t make it any less surreal.

Premier League and EFL bosses have announced today that the season will be suspended until at least April 3 following emergency talks.

This decision also includes matches in the FA Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship.

With new cases of the coronavirus outbreak being reported all the time, including the news that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and young Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi have each contracted the virus, the safety of players and the integrity of the competition has become the highest concern.

Arsenal’s game against Brighton on Saturday had already been postponed with Arteta self-isolating, while Chelsea announced their full squad had gone into isolation.

Three Leicester first-team players have also self-isolated after showing symptoms.

Everton announced this morning that their entire first-team squad and coaching staff were in isolation after a first-team player showed symptoms of the virus.

UEFA have confirmed they have postponed next week’s Champions League and Europa League games, while Spain’s La Liga, the Dutch Eredivisie, Portugal’s Primeira Liga and USA’s Major League Soccer have all already announced suspension.

Later today, we at Dream Team will also announce what this means for your fantasy football team.
