Ismaila Sarr has been named Arsenal’s Player of the Season after his performance against Liverpool.
The decision follows his Man of the Match showing for Watford in their shock 3-0 win over Jurgen Klopp’s previously unbeaten side.
Sarr scored twice to help end Liverpool’s hopes of equalling or beating the Gunners’ 49-game unbeaten record and street parties in north London are now set to go on long into the night.
Unofficial Arsenal spokesman Lee Satchell said: “Arteta and the boys were all huddled around a TV at the Emirates watching the game and the scenes at the final whistle were simply amazing.
“To be honest, it was the loudest the Emirates has been all season!
“At full-time, the lads decided that they would hold their own vote on who should be named Gunners’ Player of the Season, with each player going into a booth to sign a ballot paper in secret.
“All 25 players in the squad voted, but the final count came up one short after Aubameyang missed the box at the last minute when he went to mark his cross.
“Sarr was the unanimous choice of all the players, with the exception of Mustafi, who decided to vote for himself.”
Sarr will collect his award on the final day of the season when Arsenal host Watford, in a fixture where he could be the man to relegate the Gunners to the Championship
In addition to being named Arsenal’s Player of the Season, plans are already underway to construct a statue of Sarr outside the Emirates to celebrate his achievement.
