Not everyone gets to live out their dreams.
Whether it’s going to the moon, marrying a pop star or playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo – dreams just don’t come true… Sorry kids.
But every now and then someone, somewhere out there, gets to live out their wildest dream.
Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, Guy Ritchie tied the knot with Madonna and now, young Joao Felix is living out his own personal fantasy – playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 19-year-old’s dreams are set to come true as Portugal take on Switzerland in the Nations League semi-final.
Felix claimed he had two dreams for 2019 – to play alongside Ronaldo and to win the Golden Boy award.
An award won by only one other Portuguese player since 2003, no, not him…
Renato Sanches, of course.
The match against Switzerland is a landmark game in Portuguese football as the 34-year-old Ronaldo is paired up with Felix – who many are tipping to become the next superstar for the national side.
It feels like the passing of a baton as Ronaldo, who may never play in another World Cup, shares the same pitch as the Benfica youngster who was just six years old when CR7 made his World Cup debut.
Felix has enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough season in the Primeira Liga, the versatile attacker scored 15 and got nine assists in 26 games.
But it was his hat-trick against Eintracht Frankfurt that had heads turning from Barcelona to Manchester.
Both Man United and Man City are interested in the youngster and his idol may have a say in persuading him the red corner is where his future lies.
But even that might not be enough to get him to Old Trafford these days…
How many games the pair will get to play together from here remains to be seen.
A lot will depend on how long the Juventus star decides to stay with the national team – at the tender age of 34, he’s no spring chicken.
However long it lasts, enjoy this dream, Joao…
Not everyone gets to live them.
