Diego Costa may have reached peak b****** levels to get sent off against Barcelona

The incendiary striker was shown a straight red just 28 minutes into the game

If shithousery is a religion then Atletico Madrid must be its church.

In the grand scheme of things there are several candidates for who would be the pope of this imaginary religion: Sergio Ramos, Scott Brown and Diego Godin all make competitive cases.

But for us it has to be a true elite bastard, a man spawned in darkness and in this case it has to be Diego Costa.

The spiky, bullish and more than anything angry striker is often at his best when he’s bursting with venom and bullying the opposing centre-backs.

In a match, which had Atletico Madrid won may have just opened a slim chance of winning La Liga, Costa didn’t really get a chance to get up close and personal with Gerard Pique or Clement Lenglet.

Mainly because he was shown a straight red card with just 28 minutes showing on the Camp Nou clock.

Beating Barcelona in front of their home fans is difficult enough, doing it in with 10 men for over an hour is nearly impossible.

Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi both scored as the Catalans ran out 2-0 winners and pretty much wrapped up the title, opening a 11-point lead over Atletico in 2nd.

However, in the first half an hour it was all about Costa and just how much of a naughty boy he is.

Seven minutes in and he was leaving a little bit too much on Jordi Alba after a clearance as you can see above.

Then the real fun started.

Midway through the first half Costa launched a scathing rant at the referee with the below expletive-laden lyrics.

It’s hard to argue that if Costa said anything like the above that he shouldn’t have seen a straight red, the only real question is why he would say that to the ref and let his team down so badly.

However, according to Costa’s teammate Koke, the dark lord himself was actually aiming the insults towards himself not the referee.

He just lacksadaiscally said it when he was facing the official and very loudly. Oops.

The more you crowd him the more likely he is to change his mind

Diego Simeone came out after the game to say Costa had been treated somewhat unfairly in that many players say the same thing to the referee but are not sent off.

Unfortunately we are not sure that defence works when you have said what Costa reportedly said.

As you can see below Pique was on hand to calm the situation down with a quiet word in Costa’s ear.
