Ashley Young said it was a the highest honour to be the player Mike Dean showed his 100th Premier League red card to.
Dean took the sweet pleasure of brandishing his 100th red by showing Young a second yellow for a lunge in the second half against Wolves.
The maverick official got to cherish the moment as he issued the yellow before composing himself and bringing out the red card for his ton.
Young was reportedly made up that he could be the man to be on the end of the Premier League’s most famous referee’s biggest career moment.
Unofficial Man United insider Lee Satchell revealed Young said leaving his side down to 10 men for most of the second half was worth it so he could grant Dean his crowning glory.
“He told me he felt Dean had been working towards this moment his entire career and he wouldn’t have wanted any other player to get the honour of being his 100th Premier League sending off,” Satchell said.
“In fact he was so chuffed that he said he would help fund a Mike Dean 100: Every Red Card DVD for any young fan that wanted to see a master at work.”
It had been a long time coming since his 99th red card in January but what a moment for the young man.
