Matt Ritchie is the epitome of a ‘does a job’ Premier League player.
He’s a guaranteed 7/10 every week for Newcastle but every so often he pops up with something a bit special and this was one of those moments.
Ritchie literally turned into a flying Scotsman to deny Alexandre Lacazette a certain goal and Arsenal their second of the night against Newcastle.
On the stroke of half-time the Gunners had Rafa Benitez’s side under heavy pressure and it took Ritchie summoning his inner Superman to keep the scoreline at 1-0.
Sead Kolasinac found Lacazette in the box and while the Frenchman did well to forge out a chance, producing a strike on the turn which caught out the Newcastle defence, Ritchie’s response was even better.
This is arguably the Scotland international’s most impressive contribution in a Newcastle shirt to date.
However, it’s still not our favourite Ritchie moment.
Who can forget when he officially became the angriest man in football after he was subbed…
