Callum Hudson-Odoi and Declan Rice will make their first England starts tonight against Montenegro.
Gareth Southgate has shown huge faith in the youngsters who both made their Three Lions debuts from the bench against Czech Republic on Friday.
Rice and Hudson-Odoi looked comfortable in their respective 20 minute cameos at Wembley and now have the chance to impress Southgate from the first whistle.
Here’s the England starting XI in full:
The timing of Hudson-Odoi’s first England start might come as a surprise to many.
The Chelsea youngster has been embroiled in a public dispute with Maurizio Sarri all season and as a result has had his first-team opportunities limited.
The 18-year-old is yet to make a Premier League start for the Blues but will feature from the first minute for the Three Lions in a crunch Euro 2020 qualifier.
The decision to start Hudson-Odoi somewhat contradicts Southgate’s statement that he won’t pick Jack Grealish because the Aston Villa man doesn’t play in the Premier League.
The muscle injury Eric Dier picked up in the first-half against Czech Republic has ruled him out of the clash with Montenegro.
Rice has benefited from his team-mate’s misfortune and the West Ham utility man will hope to vindicate Southgate’s decision to hand him a start.
England are currently top of their Euro 2020 qualifying group, sitting above Bulgaria, tonight’s opponents Montenegro, Kosovo and Czech Republic.
While the Three Lions are in action tonight, Kosovo will host Bulgaria in Group A’s other clash.
