Liverpool have gone to Bayern this evening knowing they need to outscore their German opponents to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.
Having left Anfield in a stalemate two weeks ago, few were backing the Reds to get the better of their in-form opponents in this second leg clash.
But a moment of madness from Manuel Neuer may have handed them the ultimate lifeline.
On the 26th minute, with the game cagey and bereft of much attacking output from either side, it took a long ball forward from Virgil van Dijk to undo Bayern’s back-line and send Sadio Mane running into the box.
After outmuscling Rafinha, he’s then faced with an on-rushing Neuer.
But in one brilliant move, Liverpool’s man of the moment spun the German keeper before scooping his shot into an empty net.
Take a look at this.
The best part of that is definitely the touch from Mane, which seems to flat-foot both of Bayern’s closest defenders as well as Neuer, giving him the space needed to execute one of the sweetest moves you’ll see all evening.
The big game player can now add Bayern to a list of illustrious Champions League teams he’s netted against, which includes Real Madrid, Man City, Roma and Porto.
- Lionel Messi is rightfully the GOAT but Cristiano Ronaldo is undeniably the GIRAFFE
- Granit Xhaka has completed the transition from laughing stock to undroppable
- Should Jordan Pickford still be England’s first-choice goalkeeper?
