It’s a showreel of absolute horrors.
When he’s not on social media insisting that someone, somewhere is ๐๐๐, Shkodran Mustafi is one of Europe’s most-calamitous defenders.
If you somehow didn’t already know that the German is the defensive-equivalent of wet tissue paper, someone on Twitter kindly (?) put together a thread of his 15 worst moments.
We’ve decided to dissect our top three…
3 Germany v Chile – 2017
This is textbook Mustafi. It has a bit of everything.
After a sloppy pass instead of cutting his losses and staying in position, he decides to make the situation 100x worse.
The German follows up his original mistake by flying through the back of his opponent, freeing up space to gift his then team-mate Alexis Sanchez with a one-on-one.
Mustafi is barely up from his knees by the time Sanchez predictably finds the net in what was just the 5th minute of the game.
2 Arsenal v Man City – 2018
Allow me to set the stage.
Against all odds Arsenal have reached the Carabao Cup final and face a free-scoring City at Wembley.
Defensive resilience would be a must and even the Gunners notorious for their soft underbelly would rise to the occasion, right?
Enter Mustafi who, in a matter of seconds, managed to burn bridges with Arsenal fans everywhere.
The German was caught out by a long Ederson goal-kick and his slack positioning allowed Aguero to get goal side. Schoolboy stuff.
After the slightest bit of contact from the Argentine, Mustafi stopped to appeal for an imaginary foul as Aguero nonchalantly chipped over David Ospina to give City the lead.
1 Arsenal v Southampton 2018
Taking first spot is this masterpiece.
Mustafi and Hector Bellerin are both keeping tabs on Shane Long and the situation looks to be completely under control.
The German even takes a look over his shoulder and is fully aware of the Saints striker lurking behind him. I see no danger?
However, in true Mustafi fashion, he manages to cock it all up.
The No20 loses track of Long who casually skips in front to prod the ball home at the near post.
Remarkably Mustafi’s first reaction is to point the finger at Petr Cech. Unbelievable sh*thousery.
We guarantee you’ll have this thread on repeat like that Netflix series you know is s**t but just can’t shake.
It’s strangely addictive.
Liverpool fans should consider themselves blessed to have Dejan Lovren, while Man United fans need to latch onto Phil Jones and never let go.
Surely Mustafi will beย ๐๐๐ย of the transfer list this summer?
