Marco Silva has apparently been told he will be sacked if Everton beat Man City.
The decision comes as the Everton executive contemplate the fallout if they somehow help bitter rivals Liverpool win the title this season.
Despite a run of just three wins in their last 12 league games, Everton are prepared to sacrifice this match in order to help City to the title.
According to unofficial Everton insider Lee Satchell the club has told Silva he will be sacked if he tries to beat City tonight.
“The club have been in such bad form recently that everyone was laughing about the idea of even getting close to City tonight,” said Satchell.
“But then it dawned on them, if they somehow do beat them then it will be doing Liverpool a massive favour.
“So Silva has been told he will be sacked if he tries to actually get three points tonight.
“Everyone at the club has been told to remember the famous saying ‘It’s not the winning, it’s the taking part that counts’.”
Back in 2014 Everton managed to lose 3-2 at home to City in May to essentially hand them the title over Liverpool – the Reds’ utter capitulation at Crystal Palace notwithstanding.
Five years’ later Silva has been told this time he has to lose to City to make sure Liverpool don’t get their hands on the title for the first time since 1990.
Satchell explained that to make sure that happens Silva has been ordered to play wobbly Jordan Pickford in goal and Cenk Tosun up front, ensuring they both concede and struggle to score.
The fans have also been instructed to cheer any good play by Man City and go wild for any goals for the visitors, according to Satchell.
