One season wonder, they said.
The bubble will burst, they said.
A bit like Harry Kane, it’s safe to say you probably shouldn’t underestimate Mo Salah.
Because that fraudulent flash in the pan is now joint top scorer in the Premier League after a sensational hat-trick at Bournemouth.
Everything Salah touched turned to gold, his left foot unerringly accurate.
But just when you thought he couldn’t get any more infectiously heartwarming, the Egyptian King turned down Sky Sports’ Man of the Match award and gave it to James Milner instead.
Milner was marking the 500th appearance of his Premier League career.
Salah said: “500 games. I have to congratulate him for his amazing career and I hope we can win something together this season.”
Butter wouldn’t melt.
Salah’s final two goals were both sumptuous, dazzling the Cherries defenders and leaving them in a heap on the floor.
He’s evidently a pretty nice bloke, too.
