Alexandre Lacazette’s handball assist might be the worst refereeing decision of the season

Yep this about as blatant as they come

Footballers subtly get away with things all the time.

A sneaky dive. A cheeky push.

Alexandre Lacazette’s handball against Crystal Palace doesn’t fall into that category… yet was somehow missed by the officials.

With the score at 1-1 at Selhurst Park after Granit Xhaka had just pulled Arsenal level, the away side won a corner.

There was some customary pushing and shoving in the box as the ball was whipped in, with Lacazette at the heart of it.

His shirt was being pulled but his hand shot straight up and connected fairly obviously with the ball.

Lacazette contrived to palm it perfectly to partner in crime Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who tucked in at the back post.

The Arsenal players ran off to celebrate almost sheepishly after realising the officials hadn’t noticed, with Lacazette in particular looking relieved.

Lacazette and Aubameyang have developed a telepathic understanding but this was certainly a new dimension to their relationship.

You there! You can use your hands!

You there! You can use your hands!

The most blatant decision of the season so far? Absolutely.

With this kind of luck who says Arsenal can’t challenge for the title?
