Arsenal transfer hopes hit as head of football reveals they aren’t planing on any January business

The Gunners top brass have admitted that they would only be interested if "something special" comes up

Arsenal’s transfer hopes have taken a hit as one of their chiefs has revealed they have no plans for the January transfer window.

Head of Football Raul Sanllehi admitted the top brass have not even thought about the market and “unless something special” comes up, the Gunners are likely to play no part.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Sanllehi said:

“We are going to have that debate if that is the situation.

“Right now, we have not even started looking into that.

“Unless something special comes up, in principle, the winter window is not one that we are really interested in.”

The news will come as a major blow to boss Unai Emery and Gunners fans – who were hoping some new recruits could surge their side to a top 4 finish.

There had been numerous reports of a flurry of Arsenal activity at the turn of the year – such as a move for out-of-favour Chelsea midfielder Rubern Loftus Cheek and Barcelona outcast Malcom.

And there has also been apparent interest in Alberto Moreno – who is out of contract with Liverpool at the end of the season.

And with Aaron Ramsey set to leave the club at the end of the season, fans will be frustrated the hierarchy are not moving to replace him sooner rather than later.

The Gunners have been on a fine run of form of late, winning nine consecutive games on the trot in all competitions.

Unai Emery’s men are fourth in the league and return to Premier League action on Monday against Leicester at the Emirates.
