Forget fouling players — Casemiro is now slide tackling referees from behind

Next level...

Yeah, tackling players is alright.

But have you ever gone through the back of a referee and got away with it?

Casemiro has clearly grown bored of fouling opponents as, on Saturday, the Brazilian decided to execute a slide tackle on the referee midway through Real Madrid’s win over Espanyol.

Fair play to ref, he does well to stay on his feet.

Casemiro lived out every Sunday League footballer’s dream by spotting an opportunity to legitimately play the ball while also sticking one of the ref.

It’s actually a successful interception.

Real won 1-0 thanks to Marco Asensio’s winner just before half-time.

The only surprise was that it wasn’t a 25-yard thunderf**k from his wand of his left foot.

The 22-year-old Spaniard stroked the ball into the far corner after the hosts broke downfield through Luka Modric and Karim Benzema.

Los Blancos were not at their free-flowing best but Julen Lopetegui will have been pleased with the three points.

Real’s fans may have felt it was the kind of game in which they dropped points last season.

The win meant Real leapfrogged Barcelona to go top of La Liga.

However, Lionel Messi and co will reverse that with a win at home to Girona this evening.

Just don’t expect Sergio Busquets to slide the ref from behind…
