Nobody should feel more ashamed of themselves than Douglas Costa this morning.
The Brazilian winger spat at Sassuolo’s Federico Di Francesco during Juventus’ 2-1 win at the weekend.
The incident occurred after he had elbowed and headbutted the same opponent either side of the visitors’ goal.
Incredibly, the referee only showed Costa a yellow card after the trio of incidents.
However, the 28-year-old was sent off after a VAR review in the dying seconds of the game.
The disgraceful end threatened to overshadow Cristiano Ronaldo’s triumphant afternoon as he broke his Juve duck with a brace.
After tapping home from half a yard tap-in, the Portuguese forward latched on to Emre Can’s through ball to make it 2-0.
Costa will now face a ban but could be met with further action if league chiefs decide to lengthen his ban.
Massimiliano Allegri condemned Costa’s actions.
“Maybe he was irritated at a foul before,” he said.
“But it does not matter, because this absolutely must not happen.
“The one thing we must avoid doing is falling for provocation.”
Douglas mate, you’ve let yourself down.
