But they staged a comeback in the second period as they went in search of an equaliser with minutes left on the clock.
That was until a huge scuffle broke out following a late tackle on Town defender Laken Duchar-Clark.
Players from both sides joined the melee and it threatened to escalate further when Enfield sub Tia Bailey sensationally snapped and grabbed Mollie DeBell round the neck.
Other players attempted to pull the pair apart before Bailey was given her marching orders.
The drama didn’t end there was Ipswich finding an equaliser in the 107th minute.
Stand-in manager Ralph Pruden said after the contest: “It was totally unnecessary, not for one moment did I want to see Laken struggling on her own.
“Their player reacted and was very aggressive. There was a couple of players getting involved and it didn’t need to happen.”
