Diego Simeone has his heart set on a return to Inter Milan – and it will only be a “matter of time” before he returns to the San Siro, according to his sister.
Simeone, who left Atletico Madrid to join Inter as a player in 1997, has been frequently linked with a switch to the Italian giants.
And Natalia Simeone, the Atleti’s man’s sister and agent, has confirmed there are substance to those rumours – as the 48-year-old has ambitions to manage Inter one day, as well as potentially Lazio.
She told Gazzetta dello Sport: “Sooner or later [he will move] – Diego has said it, too.
“I think it will be a matter of time.
“He likes the place, the environment, living in Milan.
“Inter are a team that he would love to coach. But he has also remained very close to Lazio.”
Simeone has spent seven years in charge of Atletico so far, establishing himself as one of the best managers in the world.
And Natalia says the “passion” her brother has for the club, and the game in general, means he’ll only quit when he feels it’s right.
She added: “In the end, passion always wins. Diego has been at Atletico Madrid for seven years.
“He is one of the best coaches in the world, but he stays where he believes there is still work to be done.”
Atletico are currently tenth in La Liga, having won one, drawn one and lost one of their opening three games.
In comparison, Inter are seventh in Serie A, while Lazio lie in 16th.
