Man United’s players and staff reportedly believe Jose Mourinho will be sacked if the team lose to Burnley on Saturday.
Although SunSport revealed that the board have no plans to axe Mourinho despite the poor start to the Premier League campaign, others in and around Old Trafford fear the worst.
SunSport exclusively revealed how United players are already “confused” by Mourinho’s chopping and changing and strange tactics.
And £89million record signing Paul Pogba revealed he was shocked by their Tottenham tonking.
The midfielder said: “Even we don’t understand what happened. It’s bizarre.”
And according to MailOnline, the prospect of the Portuguese boss being given his P45 is being “openly discussed” around the club.
A source told the website that “some think he’ll be out if they lose at Burnley” while “others can’t see him lasting beyond September”.
United slumped to a 3-0 defeat against Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday, a result which saw the stadium practically empty by full-time.
That result has left them with just three points from their opening three matches of the campaign – their worst start for 26 years.
Odds have tumbled on the United boss becoming the first Premier League manager to leave his post this season – while Zindene Zidane has been linked with succeeding him in charge.
But while some have been quick to write off Mourinho from succeeding, the view is not shared by the people who matter the most – the club’s board.
Mourinho has hardly hidden his frustration at his bosses for failing to deliver the big money signings he wanted over the course of the summer.
Yet executive vice chairman Ed Woodward and the remainder of the United board still have total confidence in him delivering a side capable of winning trophies.
There were no thoughts of change among the group before Monday’s loss – and that situation has not changed on the back of one result.
Woodward only handed Mourinho a new contract in January and United feel that is still a sound investment despite the poor start to this season.
