LUKA MODRIC will remain at Real Madrid this season as the club are set to double his wages to match with Gareth Bale.
The Croatian has been the subject of transfer speculation after his incredible World Cup performance and will remain at the Santiago Bernabéu despite interest from Inter Milan.
It was rumoured that after the World Cup in Russia, Modric was tempted by an offer from Inter Milan that guaranteed a six year contract.
The 32-year-old scored in Croatia’s opener against Nigeria and again against Argentina in the group stage.
The midfielder was voted the best player of the tournament after steering his nation to a shock final against France.
Modric posted a ‘Back to work!’ picture on his Twitter on Friday morning, which confirmed to Real Madrid fans that he was going no where.
According to Spanish outlet Marca will enter the new season with a pay rise that matches captain Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale which is rumoured to be £11 million.
Modric, according to the latest information, was reportedly asking for £8 million, the same salary scale as Kroos and Benzema.
The interest from Inter Milan has worked in Modric’s favour as Real Madrid are now set to give him the recognition he deserves after his superb performances in previous seasons.
Fellow Croatian Mateo Kovacic completed his loan switch to Chelsea this week in the Transfer Window.
And Kovacic admitted he asked for Modric’s advice before making the move.
“I speak to Luka always. He is, of course, happy for me,” he said.
“He is sad that I am leaving because we are very close there but he told me that London is an amazing city.
“He said the Premier League will be tough in the beginning but he said it is a nice League, the stadiums are always full and I will enjoy it.
