Tottenham target Jack Grealish to get new Aston Villa contract – but with £30m January buyout clause included

Star was subject of interest from Mauricio Pochettino but didn't make the switch to North London and is now being rewarded with new deal

Jack Grealish will get a new Aston Villa contract with a buy-out clause after deadline-day heartbreak.

Villa refused to do business with Tottenham over the 22-year-old and left him devastated at missing out on playing in the Champions League.

But he is set for a fresh deal at Villa Park which he is now likely to sign and wait for his move like Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho did at Liverpool.

Villa rejected a £25million offer from Spurs but a fresh deal will have a set fee for clubs to land him in January.

Steve Bruce wanted to keep Grealish for a Championship promotion push and the club had no need to sell following their recent takeover.

But a new deal means Spurs may still land him in January with a buy-out likely to be set around the £30million mark.

Tottenham’s failure to capture Grealish meant they became the first Premier League club to fail to sign a player in the summer transfer window since its inception in 2003.

Despite looking to be part of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad this season, Grealish has a healthy relationship with Villa fans and was given an ovation against Hull this week when it looked like he had played his last game for the club.

They are set to back their local hero tomorrow against Wigan after the club stood firm over him staying.

Bruce’s signing of John McGinn from Hibernian should bolster his midfield options but there will no doubt be disappointment that Joe Bryan opted for Fulham despite being on the brink of a move to Villa Park.
