Shaw has entered the final year of his Old Trafford contract and there are currently no plans to extend it.

The England international has said he hopes to win over Jose Mourinho with his performances in order to earn an extension.

But Wolfsburg could now make an offer to take Shaw off the Special One’s hands once and for all.

However, it’s said that the 23-year-old has no plans to leave the Theatre of Dreams.

And Shaw’s exit would also leave United scrambling to find a replacement with less than a fortnight of the transfer window remaining.

He looks set to start the first game of the season against Leicester, with Diogo Dalot injured and Matteo Darmian heading to Napoli on loan.

But Mourinho’s squad will be boosted by the imminent returns of Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones from World Cup duty, with Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba also approaching the end of their holidays.

Meanwhile, young goalie Joel Pereira could be heading on loan to Vitoria Setubal following the arrival of Lee Grant from Stoke.
