KYLIAN MBAPPE could have been a Manchester United player – for just £5million.
The 19-year-old has been one of the stars of this World Cup and completed a £166million move to PSG this summer.
But United’s former assistant boss Ryan Giggs revealed that he had watched Mbappe and had been very impressed by his performances while at Old Traffford.
Giggs had also told the club’s transfer chiefs to do everything in their power to get the teenager, who would have then been available for a cut-price fee.
He told The Times: “I watched Mbappe play.
“I was watching him and Gabriel Jesus with the chief scout and it was a no-brainer. It was just like, Get them.”
“It would have cost £5million or something – get them, loan them back and that’s where the recruitment could have been better.
“I know what a Manchester United player looks like.”
However the Red Devils completely missed their chance and he secured his record-breaking move to PSG this summer.
Mbappe’s switch makes him the second-most expensive player of all time, behind his team-mate Neymar.
The Frenchman’s performances at the World Cup have left social media comparing him to Pele.
Mbappe began his youth career at AS Bonby before he was snapped up by Monaco.
After he progressed through the ranks at the Ligue 1 club, playing for the reserves and then breaking into the first team.
