This is a very, very satisfying stat.Β
Jan Vertonghen made his 100th appearance for Belgium tonight in their friendly against Portugal.
What makes it a particularly special occasion for the Spurs man is that it comes 11 years to the day since he made his debut, also against Portugal.

Don’t believe us? Here’s the proof…
The former Ajax man made his international bow against Portugal, as part of a Belgium side which also featured Thomas Vermaelen and an afroless Marouane Fellaini.
Belgium were 2-1 winners on the day in 2007.
Now, 11 years later, Vertonghen will play a crucial part in the Red Devils’ attempts of success at this summer’s World Cup.
Surprisingly, Vertonghen also becomes the first Belgian to ever reach 100 caps.
The previous record holder was Jan Ceulemans, the attacking midfielder racked up 96 caps for the Red Devils.
