Real Madrid star Marcelo takes a piece of the Champions League final goal net as a memento

Brazilian defender did not pose much of a threat to the Liverpool goal during the game but returned with a pair of scissors

MARCELO did not pose much threat to the Liverpool goal during the Champions League final – but he made his mark afterwards.

The Real Madrid defender returned armed with a pair of scissors to take a special memento, with his kids in tow.

And while he did not score himself – as he has often done down the years – the flier can at least look back at his role in Gareth Bale’s Hallmark moment.

Marcelo provided the right-footed cross for his Welsh team-mate to acrobatically put Real back in front after Sadio Mane’s equaliser.

And despite scooping a fourth gong in five years, the Brazilian international is clearly still as giddy about his achievements.

Gerard Pique went one better in 2015 when he took the entire net home.

It was later revealed the Barcelona ace gave the souvenir to a pal, whose wedding he was set to miss because of Spain duty.

The grateful groom reportedly gave a small piece of his prize to every guest in a touching gesture.

Marcelo, meanwhile, must now turn his attention to Brazil’s World Cup bid.

Ever the loyal club man, he is already beginning efforts to lure international team-mate Neymar to the Bernabeu.

He said: “Great players have to play here.

“Real Madrid is very big and the big players needs to play in Real Madrid.”
