Former Arsenal man Ox uploaded a photo of himself watching his team-mates in action on a laptop from a hospital in Liverpool.

He captioned it: “Watching the boys in Rome last week taking us one step closer to something very special.

“Knee surgery was a success and the hard work has already begun.”

Chamberlain described how he was “absolutely devastated” to be missing the final months of Liverpool’s season and the tournament in Russia.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was taken off the pitch on a stretcher after going in for a tackle during Liverpool’s 5-2 Champions League win over the Serie A side.

The Merseyside club soon confirmed that the midfielder would be out for the rest of the season, and that “no specific timescale” has been placed on his return.

He later wrote on social media: “Absolutely devastated to have picked up this injury at such a crucial time in the season.

“Gutted I won’t be able to play any further part now in our Champions League run for Liverpool and also the World Cup with England.
