DC UNITED are reportedly chasing a high-profile swoop for Carlos Tevez or Fernando Torres.
The ambitious MLS outfit are moving to a new 20,000 seater stadium in July.
They would like a marquee signing to christen Audi Field, with Mario Balotelli also linked.
But Goal claims Tevez and Torres top the wishlist as United look to reverse their policy on big-name signings.
Former Liverpool and Chelsea hitman Torres has announced he will leave Atletico Madrid when his contract expires in June.
The 34-year-old claims he is leaving for the good of the club after seeing his game time drop.
He said: “I always will want what’s best for the team and always put Atletico Madrid before me.
“Twice, I have given up what I want most, which is to play here.
“I understand that it is good for the club, and I would do it a third and a fourth time.”
Tevez, 34, returned to Boca Juniors in January after flopping at Shanghai Shenhua.
And he would be the perfect statement of intent for United, who are set to change ownership from Erick Thoir to Jason Levien over the summer.
