Ouch, ouch, ouch.
Willian has a very powerful shot and if Cedric Soares can remember anything from today he will verify that.
The Southampton defender took a Willian thunderstrike plum to the face in the first half and surprisingly lived to tell the tale… just.
Chelsea had been dominating the first half with Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard causing Southampton’s back line all sorts of problems.
The constant sniping between the channels had left Southampton on the verge of last-ditch blocks and desperate challenges.
But Cedric’s moment of hard man defending was probably more accidental than anything.
Willian let rip with a fire ball from outside the area and the ball smashed Cedric in the face from no more than 10 yards away.
However, such was the velocity on the strike that it nearly sent Soares flying into the air.
He’s feet failed him as he was knocked several feet across the pitch as he tried to regain control of his body and legs.
As we imagine the lights going out in Cedric’s head, he will have woken up lying on the Wembley turf with an FA Cup semi final going on around him.
Amazingly, the Portuguese defender got straight back to his feet and continued playing as if nothing had happened.
It shows the durability of the defender’s face that he was barely jaded after being knocked to the ground by a shot to the face.
It must have hit his forehead because if that went to the chin it would surely be the 10 count right there.
