There were worrying scenes at first as the Frenchman lay on his back on the turf while he was examined by one of the club docs.
But after it appeared he was OK Twitter could not resist but make a raft of jokes at the Brighton winger’s expense.
It doesn’t look like he is a very popular man either.
Mauricio Pochettino surprised everyone by dropping six of the starting 11 that lined up against Man City with Dele Alli not even given a place in the squad.
It was clear that he was putting all his eggs in the FA Cup semi-final basket which brings Man United to Wembley on Saturday.
And Brighton got off to a sharp start as Wanyama immediately found himself under pressure.
Knockaert sprinted past him and chopped back inside, as he did Wanyama’s flailing fist landed sweet on his chin and left him sprawled on the pitch.
Half of Twitter felt it was a major overreaction from the Brighton player while the other half all made exactly the same joke.
