Europa League draw: Arsenal handed the semi-final tie they definitely wanted to avoid

This is definitely not the opponent Arsenal fans would've wanted

It’s been a week of epic European comebacks and Arsenal survived one of their own in Russia last night.

But in the end, Danny Welbeck and Aaron Ramsey netted twice in the second-half to confirm their place in the last four of this season’s Europa League.

And that’s sort of great news for Arsenal, as winning this competition is pretty much their only reasonable chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

However, if they do win it, then we get the feeling the much-detested Arsene Wenger will stay on for yet another season.

Arsenal fans, we can feel your conflicting emotions from here.

However, they now face an even trickier test to reach the final, having drawn the mighty Atletico Madrid in the semi-final.

Diego Simeone’s side was definitely the one they wanted to avoid, while they face the further disadvantage of playing the first-leg at home.

This is the full draw for the Europa League semi-finals:

Marseille v Salzburg

Arsenal v Atletico Madrid
