Real Madrid were one of the clubs offered Paul Pogba by agent Mino Raiola — and they said NO.
According to reports, the European champions declined the opportunity to sign the 25-year-old — who they had wanted in 2016 — and now feel like they’ve “dodged a bullet”.
Raiola also offered the player to Manchester United’s rivals City, revealed Pep Guardiola.
He then went on to score two crucial goals in United’s incredible 3-2 Manchester derby win on Saturday.
And according to Sports Illustrated, the Los Blancos hierarchy believed it would throw the club’s salary structure off kilter.
It adds further weight to the tale of discontent between Pogba and manager Jose Mourinho.
The Frenchman’s form has been up and down this season, during which time Manchester United’s midfield has struggled to impose itself on other teams.
And after the former Juventus man was left out of United’s Champions League second leg tie with Sevilla — which they lost — the writing was clearly on the wall.
Pogba may thank his taskmaster manager in the long run though, especially if his recent upturn in form continues into the World Cup.
Meanwhile on Old Trafford Frenchman wanting out of United is Anthony Martial.
According to reports in France the tricky winger has declined the club’s offer of a new contract, citing a lack of first-team football.
