Who, me?
Social media has gone into a frenzy after footage emerged of Man United midfielder Ander Herrera spitting on Man City’s badge at half-time of a pulsating Manchester derby.
There is no suggestion the Spain star’s act was intentional – with United announcing the midfielder is ‘mortified’ at suggestions it was deliberate.
A United spokesperson said: “Ander has seen the footage of the incident and is mortified at any suggestion that his actions were deliberate.
“It was entirely accidental and there was no intent whatsoever.”
But raging City fans laid into the 28-year-old for what he did, while United fans praised his actions.
One Twitter user said: “As much as I don’t like Man City it’s a f***ing disgrace that rival team’s player can spit on your badge. Disgraceful.”
But one United fan wrote: “Apparently Herrera spit on the Man City crest on the ground as he was going in for half-time. Renew this guy’s contract already.”
A fellow supporter said: “Didn’t actually spit on anyone, what’s the problem? If he keeps this up might start liking him.”
Cameras showed Herrera lower his head as he passes over the crest.
The United player, who is by himself, walks behind City’s Ilkay Gundogan, scorer of his side’s second goal, and Fernandinho.
United were 2-0 down at half-time but Paul Pogba’s quickfire double got them level before Chris Smalling, who was to blame for Vincent Kompany’s opener, got the winner.
Bookies had United at 50/1 to win after the first 45 minutes, so congratulations to anyone who had the foresight to back that.
If you did, would you mind getting in touch and letting us know next week’s lottery numbers?
Much appreciated.
