Gomes, 24, has struggled to make an impact at the Nou Camp since his arrival from Valencia in 2016.
Umtiti was linked with a switch to Old Trafford before he joined Barca from Lyon two years ago.
The French defender has enjoyed an extended run in the side this term, but is yet to pen a new deal with the Catalan giants and the uncertainty could allow United to step in.
And Barca boss Ernesto Valverde will be desperate to hold on to the 24-year-old who has formed an excellent partnership with Gerard Pique at the heart of the defence.
