When it rains, it pours.
Arsenal’s week from hell just got a lot worse with the emerging reports that Jack Wilshere is likely to quit the club this summer.
Wilshere has been one of the Gunners’ most consistent performers this season, showing the determination and bite so lacking amongst his team-mates.
But according to The Sun, the player and the club are ‘miles apart’ in their negotiations over a new deal with his current one expiring in June.
Wilshere has been stunned by the club’s offer to REDUCE his current salary by 25%, particularly after seeing Mesut Ozil receive a massive pay rise last month.
New signings Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are both earning DOUBLE what the midfielder takes home too.
The news contradicts what Arsene Wenger believes, with the Arsenal boss saying this week: “I want Jack to sign very quickly and I am happy to find the pen for him.
“Talks are progressing but the decision belongs to him and we have to respect that.
“Our desire has been clearly expressed and numbered and, after that, the player has to find satisfaction as well.”
Wilshere has been at Arsenal since he was a schoolboy and would ideally extend his stay, but finds the terms being offered insulting.
If a deal isn’t struck, somebody will have a mighty fine free signing in the summer.
